Quality Assurance Across Every Stage of the SDLC
Structured Quality Engineering
We apply disciplined quality engineering practices from the start of development. By embedding QA early in the SDLC, we help teams prevent defects instead of reacting to them late in the cycle.
Agile Quality Assurance
Our QA teams work alongside agile delivery teams to test continuously as features are built. Early validation reduces rework, shortens feedback loops, and helps teams move faster with confidence.
Continuous Testing
We design testing environments that support continuous integration and delivery. Automated and continuous testing ensures issues are identified early and releases remain stable as code changes frequently.
Metrics-Driven Approach
We track quality using meaningful metrics, not vanity numbers. Test coverage, defect trends, and release readiness indicators help teams understand risk and prioritize improvements.
Accelerated Time-to-Market
By aligning QA processes with delivery goals, we help teams release features faster without compromising quality. Our approach reduces last-minute surprises that delay launches.
Tools and Techniques
We use modern testing tools and frameworks to support scalability and speed. Tooling is selected based on fit for purpose, not trends, ensuring reliable and repeatable results.
Sthenos software testing services cover six kinds of testing, automation, performance, security, functional, compatibility and manual, run as quality assurance across every stage of the SDLC so defects are prevented early instead of found late in the cycle. The sections below place each kind of testing on the delivery lifecycle, compare manual and automated testing, and set out how a testing engagement runs, what security testing adds, what moves the cost, what you receive and what to ask.
Automation, performance, security, functional, compatibility and manual testing. Counted on this page.
Functional testing checks business requirements at each of these levels, as the service above states.
The cheapest defect to fix is an ambiguous acceptance criterion caught before anyone writes code.
Per hour, depending on the seniority and mix of the team. The published Sthenos band.

Where each kind of testing runs in the SDLC
Our software development services page names the seven stages of the SDLC, planning, requirements, design, build, test, deploy and maintain, and warns that test is where cheap quotes are usually cheap. Figure 1 places the testing on this page, and the security testing our penetration testing page describes, on those seven stages.
Figure 1. The seven stages of the SDLC, what testing does at each, and where security testing acts
Caption: the seven stages are the ones our software development services page names. The testing in each row restates this page's six services and its common questions (coverage from consequence, testing from requirements, regression and integration testing, continuous testing); the four rows marked Security restate the security testing in the software development lifecycle section of our penetration testing page. Nothing in the figure is a measurement.
Manual vs automated testing: which one suits each test
Manual Testing above complements automation rather than competing with it. Our manual versus automated testing guide compares the two on five aspects, restated in the table.
| Aspect | Manual testing | Automated testing |
|---|---|---|
| Execution time | Slower, because a person runs each step | Faster, because scripts can run unattended |
| Accuracy | Prone to human error | Consistent results on every run |
| Cost | Lower to start | Higher to start, cost-effective over time |
| Flexibility | High, adapts to changes | Lower, scripts need updating as the product changes |
| Best suited for | Exploratory, usability and ad-hoc testing | Regression, load and performance testing |
Where each one earns its place
Manual testing
Human judgement- Exploratory testing, where predefined scripts may not yet exist.
- Usability: whether a feature feels intuitive and whether error messages are clear.
- Short-term or early-stage work, where requirements change often.
Automated testing
Repeatable checks- Regression, API and functional checks that run after every change.
- Load and performance testing.
- Fast release cycles with CI/CD integration.
Four steps to a hybrid strategy
The same guide sets out four steps for combining test automation services with manual testing.
- Automate the repetitiveList the tests that run often, such as login, checkout or form validation, and automate those first.
- Keep people where judgement mattersDesign reviews, new feature testing and exploratory testing stay outside the automation scope.
- Split the workAutomation tasks go to skilled testers or developers; exploratory and compliance testing to manual QA.
- Review and rebalanceAs the app evolves, re-evaluate test cases, monitor outcomes and move tests between manual and automated.
How a testing engagement runs
Five steps, each one a practice this page or its answers already state, in the order they apply to a release.
- RequirementsAcceptance criteria are read before anyone writes code, because an ambiguous one is the cheapest defect to fix.Testable acceptance criteria
- Coverage by riskCoverage is decided from consequence rather than a percentage, so the areas where failure is expensive get the most.Coverage by consequence
- AutomationAutomation frameworks for the checks that run often and are stable, which usually means regression and API-level checks.Regression and API checks in CI
- Continuous and exploratory testingQA works alongside agile teams, testing as features are built, while testers work from the user's perspective to find usability issues and edge cases.Every sprint
- Release readinessTest coverage, defect trends and release readiness indicators show the risk before launch, and performance is checked under real-world load.Release readiness indicators
Security testing in software testing
Software security testing belongs inside delivery, not only at the annual audit, as our penetration testing page puts it. Where conventional software testing asks whether the system does what it should, security testing asks what else it can be made to do, and teams that treat the two as one discipline find defects while they are still cheap to fix.
What moves the cost of testing
Testing is billed at the published Sthenos rate band, and where the scope is clear we quote a fixed price for a defined outcome, with a costed roadmap before any build starts.
Within that band, these are the questions that change a testing estimate. Each comes from this page or another page on this site, and none carries a number here.
What you receive from our QA testing services
Each line is something one of the six services above says it produces.
- Automation frameworks for your web and mobile applications, built to reduce manual effort.
- Testing environments that support continuous integration and delivery.
- Quality tracked as test coverage, defect trends and release readiness indicators.
- Regressions caught early, before they reach a release.
- Usability issues, edge cases and defects found by testers working as users would.
- Bottlenecks identified and scalability validated under real-world load.
What to ask any software testing services company
These apply to any QA software testing company, Sthenos included, and each one comes from an answer already published on this site.
- What is automated, and what is manual?
- Which behaviours are covered, does the suite run on every commit, and what is still verified by hand?
- Is coverage decided by consequence, or by a percentage target that gets gamed?
- Is the load test run against production sized data rather than an empty database?
- Who owns the security scanner's findings, and does a known-vulnerable dependency fail the build?
- When does testing start: at requirements, or after development is finished?
More questions buyers ask
What is regression testing in software testing?
Testing that proves existing behaviour survived a change. It is where automation pays most, because a regression check runs often, is stable and is expensive to repeat by hand, so the pipeline finds a regression rather than a customer.
What is software security testing?
Testing that asks what else a system can be made to do, where conventional testing asks whether it does what it should. It runs inside delivery: threat modelling at design, scans gated in CI, targeted testing before release and continuous vulnerability assessment in production.
What is performance testing in software?
Testing how an application behaves under real-world load: finding bottlenecks, validating scalability and keeping the system stable and responsive at peak usage, as Performance Testing above describes. A load test belongs on production sized data rather than an empty database.
Do you test mobile apps as well as web applications?
Yes. Automation Testing above supports continuous delivery across web and mobile applications, and Compatibility Testing covers devices, browsers, operating systems and environments. Our mobile app page lists Application Testing among its services.
