How We Craft Meaningful Digital Experiences
Unbiased Empathy Mapping
We begin by understanding real users — their behaviors, motivations, pain points, and expectations. Through workshops, interviews, and behavioral analysis, we build empathy maps that ground every design decision in genuine user needs rather than assumptions.
Mind Mapping & Information Architecture
We translate insights into clarity. By structuring content, navigation, and workflows, we design intuitive information architectures that reduce cognitive load and help users find what they need effortlessly, regardless of the product's complexity.
Prototypes & Wireframing
We create low- and high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to test ideas early, uncover usability gaps, and refine user flows—ensuring the final experience is functional, efficient, and user-approved.
Digital Platform Design
We design scalable digital platforms that balance aesthetics with usability. Every screen, interaction, and transition is crafted to support business goals while delivering clarity, accessibility, and a seamless experience across web and mobile environments.
Experience Unification
Consistency builds trust. We unify experiences across devices, platforms, and touchpoints by aligning design systems, interaction patterns, and visual language—creating cohesive journeys that feel familiar, responsive, and immersive.
Strategic User Experience Design Process
This page sells user experience services and interface design for digital products on web and mobile: usability and UX consulting, UX research, user experience and UX design, interface design, and a dedicated UI/UX design team. The sections above list those six services, the five steps of our approach and the design process diagram. The sections below put that diagram into words, explain its two-diamond shape, define usability, accessibility and inclusion in the W3C's terms, and set out what moves the cost, what you receive and what to ask.
Usability and UX consulting, UX research, user experience, UX design, UI design and a UI/UX design team. Counted on this page.
Empathy mapping, information architecture, prototypes and wireframes, platform design, experience unification.
Project assessment, discovery report, UX design brief, prototypes and final, as drawn on this page.
Per hour, depending on the seniority and mix of the team. The published Sthenos band.

The design process on this page, in words
The Strategic User Experience Design Process above is drawn as a picture. These are its four stages and the activities it places in each, so the process can be read, searched and followed without the image.
- Project assessmentSite audits, analysis, audience research, stakeholder interviews and objectives.
- Discovery reportPersonas, user stories, a digital strategy, site maps and a content strategy.
- UX design briefProofs of concept, mood boards, a prototype, design comps, user testing and functional specs.
- Prototypes and finalQA, usability testing, beta testing and tech specs.
Why the process widens and narrows twice
The diagram above is drawn as two diamonds, one after the other. That shape has a published meaning. The Design Council, the UK's national charity for design, which codified and popularised it as the Double Diamond, describes it as a simple way to describe the steps taken in any design and innovation project, irrespective of methods and tools used.
Figure 1. The four stages on this page, set on the two diamonds they are drawn on
Caption: the two-diamond shape and the four stage names along the top are this page's own process diagram, redrawn; its four columns fall on the four halves of the two diamonds. The stage names inside the diamonds and the two lines underneath are the Design Council's (The Double Diamond by the Design Council, licensed CC BY 4.0). Nothing in the figure is a measurement or a duration.
In the Design Council's words, the first diamond helps people understand, rather than simply assume, what the problem is, and the insight gathered then helps define the challenge in a different way. The second diamond encourages different answers to the clearly defined problem, and delivery involves testing out different solutions at small scale, rejecting those that will not work and improving the ones that will. On this page, that is the move from project assessment and the discovery report to the UX design brief, the prototypes and the final design.
Usability, accessibility and inclusion compared
This page promises usability, accessibility and a consistent experience. The W3C, which publishes the web's accessibility standard, treats these as three related but distinct aims and advises addressing them together when designing websites and applications. Each is defined below in its terms.
Usability
Effective, efficient, satisfying- Designing products to be effective, efficient and satisfying. It includes user experience design.
- ISO 9241-11, as quoted by the W3C: the extent to which a product can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals effectively, efficiently and with satisfaction in a specified context of use.
Accessibility
People with disabilities- People with disabilities can equally perceive, understand, navigate and interact with websites and tools, and contribute equally without barriers.
- Includes technical requirements in the underlying code, such as working well with screen readers and screen magnifiers.
Inclusion
Everyone, as far as possible- About diversity, and involving everyone to the greatest extent possible; in some regions called universal design or design for all.
- Spans accessibility, access to hardware, software and connectivity, skills, age, language and more.
What moves the cost of UI/UX design services
Design work is billed at the published Sthenos rate band, and where the scope is clear we quote a fixed price for a defined outcome, with a costed roadmap before any build starts.
Within those bands, these are the questions that change a design estimate. Each is already published on our web development, custom software or website redesign pages, and none carries a number here.
What you receive from our UX services
- A usability review from a user's perspective, naming gaps, friction points and experience risks.
- Research from interviews, usability testing and validation studies, and empathy maps.
- Personas, user stories, site maps and a content strategy, from the discovery report stage.
- An information architecture for content, navigation and workflows.
- Wireframes, interactive prototypes, mood boards and design comps.
- Interface designs from our UI design services: typography, colour systems and components.
What to ask any UI/UX design company
These questions apply to any vendor in this category, Sthenos included.
- What research will the design rest on? Ask which interviews, usability tests and validation studies are planned, and with whom.
- Will people with disabilities be involved? The W3C recommends involving users with disabilities early and throughout the design process.
- Which task should the design make easier? Get the answer in writing before anything is drawn.
- What does each stage hand over? Ask to see a sample discovery report or design brief.
- What documentation is a contractual deliverable, rather than something they intend to write?
- What would make them decline the requirement? A firm with no answer is describing capacity rather than judgement.
Questions buyers ask about UI/UX design services
What does user experience research involve?
On this page, structured UX research into user behavior, expectations and pain points, through interviews, usability testing and validation studies, so teams can build evidence-based products.
What does user experience consulting cover?
Usability and UX Consulting evaluates your product from a user's perspective to identify usability gaps, friction points and experience risks, and aligns design decisions with real business goals.
Do you offer product design services or only interface design?
The six services on this page run from UX consulting and UX research to user experience design, interface design and a dedicated design team that works with product, engineering and stakeholders from ideation to final delivery.
Can we hire UX designers to work alongside our product team?
Yes. The UI/UX Design Team on this page provides dedicated UI/UX designers who work closely with product, engineering and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle, from ideation to final delivery.
Do you design web apps as well as mobile apps?
Yes. Digital Platform Design on this page covers scalable digital platforms across web and mobile environments, and Experience Unification keeps them consistent across devices, so web app design services and mobile design come from the same team.
What happens at each stage of your design process?
The diagram on this page runs in four stages: project assessment, a discovery report, a UX design brief, and prototypes and final. The steps above list each stage's activities, from stakeholder interviews to usability and beta testing.
How much do UI/UX design services cost?
Sthenos rates are $150 to $250 per hour, depending on the seniority and mix of the team, and a typical project runs $50,000 to $200,000. Where the scope is clear we quote a fixed price for a defined outcome, with a costed roadmap before any build starts.
