Web app, mobile app or one codebase for both: which one suits the product

Two platforms are two products. As our custom software development page puts it, web, iOS and Android is not one build with two ports. Each surface carries its own testing, release and store review, so if budget is tight, pick one platform first and add the second once you have traction.

How a build runs, from discovery to support

How settled the scope isA settled scope can be quoted as a fixed price. An unsettled one priced as though it were settled is where the buffer, and the argument, comes from.
Feature count and complexityEvery screen and feature is engineering time. A focused app is far cheaper than a feature-heavy one.
How many platformsiOS only or Android only is cheaper than both. Cross-platform frameworks can cover both more efficiently than two native builds.

What to ask before you hire

These questions apply to any app vendor, Sthenos included, and each one comes from an answer or a question already published on this site.

  1. Who owns the code, the repository and the domain when we are done? All three should be in your name from the start.
  2. Which platform ships first, and what would make native worth two builds rather than one cross-platform codebase?
  3. Is the app store submission checklist in the plan, or is review being treated as a formality?
  4. What is explicitly out of scope? The excluded half is the half that generates change requests.
  5. Who reviews the code, and can that person veto a merge?
  6. Show me something you built that is still being maintained three years on. Anyone can show a launch.
