CRM Software Development Services
Sthenos is an enterprise CRM development company: we consult on, build, customize and migrate CRM platforms, the four services set out above. We are platform-independent and we do not resell licences, so the recommendation you get is the one that fits, not the one that pays us a margin.
Consultation, custom development, platform customization and migration.
The seat count in our proposal is the seat count we think you should buy.
Most of that time goes to data migration and integration, not configuration.
Depending on the seniority and mix of the team.

What CRM software development covers
Salesforce describes CRM, customer relationship management, as the system a company uses to manage its interactions with current and potential customers (Salesforce, What is CRM). The engineering around that system takes four forms on this page: consultation that defines a roadmap before any development begins, custom CRM development, customization of a CRM platform to fit your existing architecture, and migration from a legacy system.
Custom CRM solutions here are built for long deal cycles, complex hierarchies and real reporting needs without forcing a business into a rigid template, and they are integrated with the enterprise systems around them. Mobile CRM access is part of platform customization, listed above as mobile and field enablement.
How to implement a CRM, from process discovery to handover
The five stages below are the ones our Salesforce consulting page sets out for a CRM programme. The figure places this page's four services on those stages, and the list under it says what each stage produces.
Figure 1. The five CRM stages, and where each service on this page acts
Caption: the five stages are the ones our Salesforce consulting page sets out for a CRM programme. The labels under them are this page's own four service cards and the items those cards list. No stage is given a duration here; the rollout window is the six to fourteen weeks answered at the foot of this page.
- Process discoveryTime with the people who use the system daily, mapping what they actually do, which is rarely what the process document says. On this page that is the CRM maturity assessment, the evaluation of the existing CRM ecosystem, and process and workflow analysis.CRM Consultation
- Platform and scope decisionA written recommendation with the fit, the licence cost and the honest trade-offs of each option, including doing nothing. This is where the CRM strategy is set, as a roadmap aligned to business value.CRM Consultation
- Configure, then buildConfiguration first, custom code only where configuration provably cannot do it, and a written justification for every custom object. Platform configuration, workflow and business rule customization, and CRM module and feature development sit here.Customization and development
- Migrate and reconcileData moved with a reconciliation report showing counts in and out, so nothing is assumed to have landed. Legacy, on-premise and version upgrade migrations run through this stage, with backup and continuity planning.CRM Migration
- Enable and hand overAdmin training, documentation and a support window. You own the system at the end, not a dependency on us, and ongoing CRM support is available as the managed services listed above.Managed services
Go-live is staged by business unit wherever the organisation allows it, because a single cutover concentrates all the risk on one day. A mid-market CRM implementation takes six to fourteen weeks, and most of that time goes to data migration and integration rather than configuration.
CRM integration services
Integrating the CRM with the ERP is usually the highest-value part of the work, as our ERP solution page puts it: quote, order and invoice move without re-keying, which is where most manual error originates. The integration work on our Salesforce consulting page also covers billing, marketing and the data warehouse, and this page's customization service lists system and third-party integrations alongside data management and governance.

Custom CRM or a configured platform: which one suits you
Configure a platform unless your sales process is genuinely unusual or per-seat licensing costs more than the build would. A custom build is the right call in a narrow set of cases, and we will tell you plainly when yours is not one of them.
Configure the platform
Where a build loses- A standard sales pipeline.
- A small team.
- A business that will change shape again within two years.
Build a custom CRM
Where a build wins- A workflow no vendor models.
- Heavy per-seat cost against low per-seat usage.
- Data residency rules a SaaS platform cannot meet.
The middle path
Keep, build, integrate- Keep the platform for the standard objects.
- Build only the one process that is genuinely yours.
- Integrate the two properly.
Configuration has its own failure mode: accumulating so much custom configuration that you have built the system anyway, inside a platform that now cannot be upgraded. When a custom system is the answer, it is built on the same stack we use for any product work, so an ordinary engineering team can maintain it rather than only us.
| Platform | Best fit | Licence cost | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salesforce | Complex sales processes, large teams, deep app ecosystem needs | Highest per seat | Needs a dedicated admin; unmanaged orgs accumulate debt fast |
| Dynamics 365 | Organisations standardised on Microsoft 365 and Teams | Often bundled favourably | Power Platform governance is frequently an afterthought |
Both rows come from the four-platform comparison on our Salesforce consulting services page, which is where the platform decision is covered in full.
What moves the cost of a CRM build
Before quoting a build we price configuring Salesforce or Dynamics instead, because for most organisations that is the cheaper answer. Where the scope is clear we quote a fixed price for a defined outcome, with a costed roadmap before any build starts.
The rate depends on the seniority and mix of the team, which is the stated reason the band has a range at all.
What you receive from a CRM engagement
- A written platform and scope recommendation, with the fit, the licence cost and the trade-offs of each option, including doing nothing.
- A written justification for every custom object, because configuration comes first.
- A data reconciliation report showing counts in and out of the migration.
- Documentation written for your admin, not for us.
- Admin training, so routine changes never need a purchase order.
- A system you own at the end; on a custom build, the repository and the cloud accounts are in your name from the first commit.
What to ask any CRM development company
The gap between a good and a poor CRM partner shows up eighteen months later, in a system nobody can change. These questions, most of them from our Salesforce consulting page, surface it early.
- Do you resell licences? If yes, ask how that affects the edition they recommend.
- Who administers this after go-live? A partner who cannot answer without quoting a retainer is designing for their own revenue.
- How much will be custom code? Configuration should come first, and custom code only where configuration provably cannot do it.
- Show me the data reconciliation from your last migration. Serious firms have one. It is the only proof the migration worked.
- What happens when we want to change a field? The answer should be that your admin does it, not that you raise a ticket.
- What happens when the estimate is wrong? Every estimate is wrong somewhere, and the answer tells you how the relationship will actually work.
More questions about CRM development
What is CRM software development?
It is the engineering around a customer relationship management system: consulting on it, building a custom CRM, customizing a platform such as Salesforce or Dynamics to fit, and migrating data into it. Salesforce describes CRM itself as the system a company uses to manage its interactions with current and potential customers.
How do you implement a CRM?
In five stages: process discovery with the people who use the system daily, a written platform and scope decision, configuration first with custom code only where configuration cannot do the job, migration with a reconciliation report, then admin training and handover. Go-live is staged by business unit wherever the organisation allows it.
Do you resell Salesforce or Dynamics licences?
No. We are platform-independent and we are not a licence reseller, which removes the usual incentive to recommend a larger edition than you need.
Who looks after the CRM after go-live?
Your own administrator, trained by us so routine changes never need a purchase order, with documentation written for your admin. Ongoing CRM managed services are part of the custom development service on this page.
Can you move an on-premise CRM to the cloud?
Yes. CRM migration on this page covers legacy CRM application migration, on-premise to cloud CRM migration and version upgrades, with data migration and validation and with backup and continuity planning. The data moves with a reconciliation report, so nothing is assumed to have landed.
Can the CRM be integrated with our ERP?
Yes, and it is usually the highest-value part of the work. Quote, order and invoice then move without re-keying, which removes the largest source of manual error in most organisations.
