What is the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)?

The Internet of Medical Things, or IoMT, is the network of connected medical devices, wearables, monitors, and sensors, that collect health data and share it with clinical systems. It is the healthcare branch of the broader Internet of Things.

A smart blood pressure cuff, a wearable heart monitor, a connected glucose meter. On their own they are gadgets. Linked into a clinical system, they become a steady stream of real world health data that care teams can act on.

The promise is care that is continuous and proactive. The challenge is doing it securely, because medical data and connected devices are both serious responsibilities.

Sthenos pairs Internet of Things engineering with healthcare delivery, as in an IoT health monitoring app built for a healthcare enterprise.

Related terms: remote patient monitoring (RPM), digital twin.

Is IoMT secure?

It can be, but it has to be designed that way. Connected medical devices need strong security because both the data and the devices are high risk.
